Simple, whatever it takes.

But in more detail:

Recruit like minded, talented and dedicated people.
Obtain stable, safe, available practice space.(**done** Evergreen Presb. Church, Memphis)
Conduct each rehearsal, as if the contest is in 2 days.
Find and make use of accomplished instructor(s) as often as possible.
Exhibit our skill and expertise as often as necessary, to insure enough paying playing opportunities to offset, if not pay for competitions and supplies.
Remain professional and respectful at all times.
And lastly. Fewer tunes, played better. You can have all the hundreds of tunes you wish to play solo or with your home band, but here, if we can't play them with excellence, we don't play them (in public).
