Because this organization has such a focused reason for existing, I fully expect there to be many more members than step into the competition circle.
These members may be future participants in the primary competition circle, who are currently in training. Many of the members may not be players at all, but those interested in the band, the competitions, and or the individual members success's, who contribute equally by providing transportation, financial or organizational skills, or even dedicated "ears", who continually evaluate the sound we are creating, and identify sources of unwanted sounds, such as individual drones or chanters which need -tweeked-.
We will have one overall program director, who may appoint others to positions of responsibility as the need arises. They may have recognizable titles, they may not. All positions will be determined on an -as needed- basis. Remember, every decision, every position, every activity, should in some way contribute to the sole overriding goal. Create the best primary competition band possible, and win in the circle.
Each "band", as numbers allow and warrant, will have their own officers such as Pipe Major, Drum Major, etc. Each band will be a separate competition band, again as numbers allow. Individuals will be promoted, or demoted as their ability to contribute to the overall sound justifies. This may be based on actual playing ability, attitude and work ethic, as shown by progress, attendance and respect for all members at -all- levels, as well as other organizations and players.
The organizational structure is in place to provide a clear path to the ultimate goal, that of building a primary competition band, made up of the best combination of players we can muster, to step in the circle and win. That is our one overriding focus and goal. If we do not win on that day, we will play to the best of our ability, and insure that those who place higher, have to work their butts off to take the prize. In the end, we, our competitors, and the entire piping community win, by continually raising the bar.
-ALL- prospective members, will be required to complete an audition & interview process. This is to assure not only that the prospective member meets the needs of the band, but is fully aware of the goals of the band, and ongoing requirements of membership. There will also be a probationary period, for the sole purpose of insuring that the prospective member has both the dedication and ability to consistently attend rehearsals as required. With such a small group, we have to be assured that every single person is completely in synch, musically and otherwise.
Anything is up for consideration, so long as it is in line with, and leads to the ultimate goal. Winning in Competition.
